‘CHRYSALIS’
short film - 2023
‘Chrysalis’ is a short film following a young woman, crippled with grief and trauma after the passing of her twin sister, who seeks to heal herself and find closure by taking psychedelics.
Sofia landed the lead role of Lydia in this experimental horror, directed by Liliana Starck, filmed in September 2023 and set for a festival run in early 2024.
‘SHÜLLBIT’
short film - 2023
Playing the lead role of Olive Melander in this absurdist comedy, Sofia filmed on this clever, tonally strong and playfully cinematic short in July of 2023. About to start its festival run, the story follows art curator Olive and her trusty best friend Eric, who accidentally destroy a multi-million dollar abstract the night of its unveiling and must secretly find a way to recreate the piece.
‘JOAN MUST DIE: I NEVER LIKED HER ANYWAY’
QUT Graduating Theatre Showcase - 2023
Directed by the marvel that is Wesley Enoch, and written by Daniel Evans, ‘Joan Must Die: I Never Liked Her Anyway’ shared a highly successful run at Gardens Point Theatre.
Playing dual roles of Mama and The Pagans, Sofia took to the stage in this flamboyant, urgent, meaty and ultimately moving depiction of a girl done wrong, a post-postmodern portrait of a young woman whose fate is giving off sparks as rumours spread, opinions catch like fire, and judgement begins to burn.

‘BIG HAIR IN AMERICA’

Directed by NIDA graduate, Flynn Hall, Sofia landed the lead role of Wanda Holloway in Peter Anthony Ryan’s, ‘Big Hair in America’. A flamboyant story of fierce competition, ferocious scandal, and a feisty mother who will stop at nothing to put her daughter in the spotlight.
Based on the incredible true and wacky story, this was a meaty and dynamic lead role for Sofia that commanded the stage in a playful blend of comedy, and absurdist drama. Performed with sell-out shows at The Loft Theatre in June 2023.
‘IN SECRET’
documentary - 2023
Currently in the thick of filming (producing and assistant directing) for her second documentary, ‘In Secret’, Sofia has joined forces with the creatives at Bookboys Productions to bring to life this heartfelt, powerful, and relevant Australian documentary. ‘In Secret’ follows Farhad Bandesh, A Kurdish Iranian refugee working to launch a new wine to the Australian public.
After many years in detention, and now fighting to stay in Australia, he hopes to provide a secret message in a bottle; a message of his history, culture and compassion. The documentary follows Farhad through his harvest, against the harsh terrain of bringing a new line of wine to life from an even harsher backdrop of personal circumstance. It is his warmth, creative spirit, humanity, and unwavering passion that brings to life this memorable film.
Selected to pitch in this year’s 2023 Australian International Documentary Conference, ‘In Secret’ is forecast to finish production in December, in preparation for broadcast in 2024.
‘SAUDADE’
Spoken Word Collective
Sofia established Saudade: A Spoken Word Collective in 2022, a quarterly spoken word showing, which invites a rotating ensemble of local Meanjin poets and wordsmiths alike, to share their creative genius in a visceral, and intimate setting. As host of the event, and one of the principle performing ensemble members, the first show was a complete sell out, inviting a unique mix of poetry, slam, short story, rap, and music into a delicious concoction of artistic expression.
As a writer herself, Sofia saw an opening for local creative talent to showcase deeper contemplations and artistic expressions, whilst fostering tighter creative community cohesion. You can have a look at some of Sofia’s recent prose and poetry below.
HERA DENIM
