SOFIA VIEGAS

BIO

Sofia Viegas (she/her) is an actor and filmmaker, conjuring artistic magic between Meanjin/Brisbane and Naarm/Melbourne. She is a bold and colourful creative, fuelled by a vigorous desire for storytelling that stokes the mind, pulls at the heart, stirs at the subconscious, and entertains out the wazoo!

Led by a deep passion for evocative and heartfelt storytelling, Sofia’s craft serves to give voice to the wonderful dysfunctions of the human condition. She’s a fierce champion of all things collaborative, wild, and wacky, with an eye for detail and a sucker for nuance.

Having trained at The VCA (Acting Studio - 2019), and as a recent 2023 graduate of her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) at QUT, Sofia’s acting portfolio extends across both stage and screen in a multitude of theatre productions, short films, web series and beyond. She has been fortunate enough to work with the likes of Wesley Enoch, Frankie Savige, Mairi Cameron, and Anna McGahan over the past several years of training and work, which has deeply enriched her craft.

In the past year, Sofia has landed the lead in three short films ‘Shullbit’, and ‘Chrysalis’, and ‘Doors That Slide’, as well as supporting roles in shorts, ‘A Couple Across The Way’, ‘A Real Christmas’, and ‘Dead Lesbians’, and Sydney Web Fest award winning web-series ‘Polyamorous’. With a handful of theatre productions under her belt also, she starred as the lead role of Wanda Holloway in Flynn Hall’s, ‘Big Hair in America’, and in Wesley Enoch’s recent production of ‘Joan Must Die: I Never Liked Her Anyway’, written by Daniel Evans.

Sofia also holds a background in filmmaking in both the world of long-form/narrative and documentary. With experience across directing, producing, 2nd and 3rd assistant directing, art department and production, she has cultivated a robust understanding of both sides of the camera, which very much amplifies her approach to the craft. As a Leading Lights Recipient, chosen as one of forty emerging Australian documentary filmmakers at the Australian International Documentary Conference in 2022, her documentary series, ‘The Elephant Room’, was selected as one of five finalists of the program.

With several exciting productions in the pipeline in the coming year (including acting in two short films across December 2023, and March 2024), and a play currently in creative development set for touring in October of 2024, Sofia’s relentless work ethic, passion for the industry, and go-getter dynamic hopes to serve as a refreshing contribution to Australia’s creative landscape.
